Wouldn’t it be great if we could have bought an investment interest in Facebook when it was new and still small? If so we would be rich by now.
Most social media sites start out being owned by a single person or a small group of initial investors. As the company grows, they hire employees, who might also get to become partial owners as well. Where Zurker differs, and where its members can benefit, is that Zurker allows the people who are members to become owners in the company as well. The books are open and visible to the public, so there is transparency and accountability up front. If greed starts to slip in, the owners (members) will know about it.
Already a member of a social network? Or two? Or three? Why would you join another one?
As time goes on, people will tire of social media networking sites making money from the sale of their personal information. Right now, these sites are selling email addresses, home addresses, friends lists, and shopping analytic data. They have become much more interested in the money than in the service.
This is pretty simple ...
You join - you automatically receive a share in the company. You are now an owner. Just as in any other public company, the share varies in value depending on the value of the company and the number of shares that have been distributed.
You can also buy more shares in the company. Current share price (3/23/12) is approximately $1 / share. This will increase as the membership increases.
What do I do with it?
The same things for which you use other social sites. You can advertise your business, link to your blog posts, connect with people who have similar interests - it's really up to you.
Zurker is adding new features all the time, such as Entities which will be business pages for groups, bands or organizations. There daily, weekly, and special event contests where members can compete for "Zen", the digital currency developed by Zurker, which can be used for products, services, and even shares in Zurker.
Street and Home
Your street is like your homepage on Facebook, it’s where you see everything that is going on with all of your contacts and friends. This is similar to walking out on your street at home and seeing what your neighbors are doing, who has decorated for the holidays, what flowers they might have planted or the new color they just painted their home.
Your home is like your timeline or thread. It will have your posts and any convos (conversations) individuals have had with you. Convos are like private email or messages from other people that are private and spam free.
Just like any other social media you can categorize your contacts into friends, family, colleagues and any other way you might know a person.
How do you add more friends who are on Zurker?
Click on the Owners, which are a collection of pictures at the bottom of your screen. Choose who you want to add as a friend and click on the “connect” box.
Once you’ve done that there is a box with a common message, “I saw your profile and would like to connect with you.” You can use this message or write your own, then click on the “continue” box.
If I don’t really know the person I usually keep this generic message. If it’s someone I know from other sites and have time sometimes I’ll write a personal message.
If you are a writer or blogger and want to share a link to your work you simply click on the word “Updates” that is in the box to the right of your page. Click on “New Update” and add a link.
You can control who sees it by checking the box, “World,” “Zurker,” “All Contacts,” or “Audience.” I always check “World” because I want as many people as possible to see my work.
Click “Continue” and you are done.
Blog, write articles or send out emails to invite friends
The more followers you invite the more shares you will own and the more people we’ll have on Zurker. Right now it is a small business but it is growing and I am confident it will be a large corporation someday. The concept is appealing to most people, and who doesn’t want to make money while having fun?
